Pros & Cons

Sketch

  • Genuinely polished native macOS design experience, distinct from browser-based competitors
  • Rare one-time purchase license option ($120) avoids subscription commitment entirely
  • On-device background removal provides privacy benefits with no cloud upload required
  • Notably low AI readiness (5/100) compared to more AI-forward design tool competitors
  • macOS-only, unlike cross-platform competitors that work on Windows and Linux as well
  • Lacks deeper generative AI design features found in AI-focused alternatives

Adobe Express AI

  • Commercial-use-safe image generation via Adobe Firefly
  • Strong integration with existing Creative Cloud brand assets and subscriptions
  • Approachable for users without prior design software experience
  • Less compelling for users with no other Adobe products, where it competes directly with Canva on template quality alone
  • AI image generation quality is comparable to, not clearly better than, several competitors
  • Full ecosystem value requires a Creative Cloud subscription
