Pros & Cons
Speak
- Genuinely strong investor backing, including the OpenAI Startup Fund, at a $1 billion valuation
- Massive real user base — over 15 million downloads with a 4.8-star average rating
- Annual billing offers substantial savings (roughly $7/month effective) over monthly pricing
- Reported pricing varies genuinely by region and promotion, complicating direct cost comparison
- Premium Plus’s personalization features ($39.99/month) represent a significant cost jump from base Premium
- Distinction between Premium and Premium Plus tiers isn’t entirely clear at signup, per reviews
Brainly AI
- Combines AI speed with real human tutor access for accuracy on hard questions
- Massive verified answer database backing AI-generated explanations
- Free basic access makes it available to a very wide range of students
- Full AI tutor features require a paid subscription
- Like any homework help tool, risks being used to bypass genuine learning rather than support it
- Answer quality still varies by subject and question complexity
