What Is Bing Copilot Search?
Microsoft's answer to AI-powered search — folding conversational answers, citations, and web browsing into the Bing search experience — was one of the earliest large-scale deployments of a chatbot inside an existing search engine, launched shortly after ChatGPT's public debut in 2023 and since folded more fully into the Copilot brand.
Its practical advantage over standalone answer engines like Perplexity is distribution: it's built directly into Bing and Microsoft Edge, meaning a huge number of people encounter it without installing anything or signing up for a new product. That built-in reach doesn't necessarily translate to being the most capable option in the category — dedicated answer engines have iterated faster and more narrowly on citation quality and search-specific behavior.
It's a reasonable default for anyone already using Bing or Edge who wants direct answers instead of a link list, and worth comparing against dedicated AI search tools in our Research & Search category if search quality specifically is the priority over convenience.

Our Take
