What Is Gigapixel AI?
Gigapixel AI, from Topaz Labs, upscales images using AI while preserving and enhancing detail, with a significant business model shift in September 2025 worth knowing before purchasing: Topaz Labs ended perpetual licenses entirely, moving to a subscription-only model for 2026. Standalone Gigapixel pricing now runs $149/year (or roughly $29/month), while the full Topaz Studio bundle covering all eight Topaz apps (including Photo AI and Video AI) costs $399/year.
That business model change has a real financial impact worth understanding directly: a tool that used to cost roughly $99 as a one-time perpetual purchase now costs $228-$348/year as a standalone subscription, or $399/year for the full suite — a substantial ongoing cost increase for long-term users who previously paid once and used the software indefinitely without recurring fees.
It's aimed at photographers and content creators needing AI-powered image upscaling, with the 2025 shift away from perpetual licensing being an important cost consideration for anyone who previously used or is comparing against Topaz's older one-time-purchase pricing model.
