What Is Semrush AI Writer?
Semrush's SEO Writing Assistant is an AI content writing tool within the Semrush SEO suite, evaluating content for SEO, readability, tone, and originality in real time, and working directly inside Google Docs, WordPress, and Microsoft Word. It's included starting with Semrush plans from $139.95/month, with full platform access requiring Guru at $249.95/month or Business at $499.95/month — ContentShake, Semrush's separate AI content generator, is priced independently at $60/month rather than bundled into base Semrush plans.
A genuinely important structural detail worth understanding: the SEO Writing Assistant itself is not a standalone low-cost product — it's bundled into Semrush's broader SEO suite starting at $139.95/month, meaning anyone wanting just the writing assistant functionality is actually paying for the full Semrush platform, while ContentShake (the separate $60/month AI content generator) offers a lower-cost alternative for content generation specifically without the full SEO suite.
It's aimed at content teams already using or planning to use Semrush's broader SEO suite who want real-time content evaluation for SEO, readability, tone, and originality built into their existing writing workflow (Google Docs, WordPress, Word), with the important distinction that anyone wanting AI writing assistance without the full $139.95+/month SEO suite commitment should consider ContentShake's separate $60/month pricing instead. Semrush AI Writer Pros & Limitations
What We Like
- Genuinely useful real-time content evaluation across SEO, readability, tone, and originality in one tool
- Works directly within existing writing tools (Google Docs, WordPress, Word) rather than a separate app
- Bundled value for teams already invested in the broader Semrush SEO suite
Limitations
- Not available as a standalone low-cost product — requires at least the $139.95/month Semrush plan
- ContentShake, Semrush’s separate AI content generator, costs an additional $60/month independently
- Full platform access (Guru, Business) costs significantly more ($249.95-$499.95/month) than the base tier

Our Take
Semrush's SEO Writing Assistant provides genuinely useful real-time content evaluation, but it's important to understand it's bundled into the broader $139.95+/month Semrush suite rather than a standalone low-cost tool.
Consider ContentShake's separate $60/month pricing instead if AI writing assistance is the primary need without the full SEO suite commitment.
