What Is Mendeley?
Mendeley is a free reference manager and academic social network with AI recommendations, allowing researchers to organize and manage references at no cost. Mendeley Premium is available at $4.99/month or $55/year (with one month free), adding a Reading Assistant (unlimited use) and 5GB of storage, plus AI that interprets research queries and pulls context-rich insights from documents, with every response including citations.
Its genuinely affordable Premium pricing ($4.99/month) for AI-powered research assistance is notable specifically in a research tools landscape where many competing AI research platforms charge substantially more — the citation-backed AI responses address a real accuracy concern for academic work where unsourced claims can undermine research credibility.
It's aimed at researchers and students wanting free reference management with an affordable AI upgrade path, with the core reference management remaining completely free while the $4.99/month Premium tier adds genuinely useful AI-powered document insights with proper citation backing.
