What Is Roam Research?
Roam Research is a networked note-taking tool for connected thinking, enabling bi-directional links between notes and a personal knowledge graph that visually shows how notes relate to each other. Pricing runs Pro at $15/month ($165/year, unlimited graphs, unlimited blocks, daily notes, bidirectional links, block references, queries, roam/js customization, public graphs, native mobile apps), plus a "Believer" plan at $500 for 5 years (working out to roughly $8.33/month for committed long-term users) — there is no free tier, only a 31-day free trial.
Its bi-directional linking and personal knowledge graph approach pioneered a genuinely influential note-taking paradigm — connecting notes to each other associatively rather than organizing them into a rigid folder hierarchy — that has since been adopted or imitated by numerous competing tools, making Roam a genuinely foundational product in the networked note-taking category even as newer competitors have emerged.
It's aimed at researchers, writers, and knowledge workers wanting associative, networked note-taking rather than traditional folder-based organization, with the 31-day free trial providing a genuinely long evaluation window before committing to Pro — the Believer plan's 5-year commitment at roughly $8.33/month effective rate is worth considering for users confident in long-term commitment to the platform.
