What Is Slack AI?
Slack AI provides AI-powered summaries and search built into Slack, with pricing restructured in 2025 — the standalone $10/user AI add-on was retired and folded into paid plans. As of September 2026, Pro ($7.25/user/month annually or $8.75 monthly) includes basic AI: conversation and thread summaries plus huddle notes, while Business+ ($15/user/month annually or $18 monthly) unlocks the advanced features that actually move the needle — AI search answers, daily channel recaps, file summaries, translations, and workflow AI generation.
A genuinely important tier-gating detail worth understanding clearly: true natural-language AI search, daily recaps, translations, and AI-assisted workflow generation are strictly gated behind Business+ and Enterprise+ — Pro users only get basic summarization, meaning teams wanting Slack's most valuable AI capabilities (particularly AI search) need to budget for the pricier Business+ tier rather than assuming Pro covers meaningful AI functionality.
It's aimed at Slack teams wanting AI-powered summarization and search integrated directly into their existing workspace, with the important caveat that Pro's basic AI (summaries, huddle notes) is meaningfully less capable than Business+'s advanced feature set (search, recaps, translations, workflow AI) — anyone specifically wanting Slack's AI search capability should budget for Business+ rather than expecting it on the lower-cost Pro tier. Slack AI Pros & Limitations
What We Like
- Basic AI summarization is included even at the more affordable Pro tier
- Business+ provides genuinely valuable advanced features — natural-language search, recaps, translations
- Deeply integrated directly into the existing Slack workspace, no separate tool needed
Limitations
- True AI search and other high-value features are strictly gated behind the pricier Business+ tier

- Pro tier’s AI capability is meaningfully more limited than Business+, which may surprise teams expecting more

Our Take
Slack's tier-gating of true AI search behind Business+ is a genuinely important detail — teams expecting meaningful AI search functionality on the cheaper Pro tier will be disappointed.
Budget for Business+ specifically if AI search, recaps, or workflow generation are priorities, since Pro's AI capability is limited to basic summarization.
