What Is RunPod?

RunPod is a GPU cloud for training and deploying AI models. None of the pricing sources was the official page, so verify at runpod.io/pricing. One guide lists the H100 80GB on Community Cloud at about $1.99 an hour for PCIe and $2.69 for SXM5, against about $2.89 and $2.99 on Secure Cloud, while another puts H100 SXM Secure at $3.29, so the SXM figure varies by source. Community Cloud runs on third-party hosts and is cheaper but availability is more variable, while Secure Cloud runs in RunPod's vetted data centres. The claim that Secure costs close to double applies mostly to budget GPUs such as the RTX 4090, where Community is about $0.34 an hour versus $0.69 on Secure, and the gap is much smaller for H100s.

Serverless is billed per second, with one source listing flex H100 at about $4.18 an hour and active H100 at about $3.35 with a 20% active discount, while another gives about $4.55 for active with cold starts billed. Lower-end serverless is cheap, with RTX 4000 flex at $1.12 an hour as a starting point, and Pods currently start at $0.27 per GPU-hour for an RTX A5000 on the published Secure Cloud price list. In all, Community Cloud H100 PCIe is about $1.99 an hour, Secure about $2.89, and serverless H100 roughly $3.35 to $4.55 depending on flex or active billing. These figures are from unofficial aggregators and conflict in places.

RunPod suits indie developers, startups and researchers who want cheap on-demand GPUs and serverless endpoints. Compare Vast.ai, Lambda and Paperspace. Browse the MLOps & Infrastructure tools directory for more.
