What Is Splunk?
Splunk is a data platform for security monitoring and observability, and Cisco completed its acquisition in March 2024, so it now operates as a Cisco business unit. Splunk's own pricing page, read directly, shows concrete starting prices only for some products. Observability Cloud starts at $15 per host per month for Infrastructure, $60 for App and Infra and $75 for End-to-End, billed annually, and Splunk Agent Observability starts at $100 a month per 1.2 million spans, billed annually. AppDynamics starts at $6 per vCPU per month for Infrastructure, $33 per host for Premium and $50 per host for Enterprise. On-Call starts at $5 per user per month for up to 10 seats. Free editions or trials are linked for several of these.
The security side is quote-only. Splunk Cloud Platform, Splunk Enterprise, Enterprise Security Essentials and Premier, SOAR and Attack Analyzer show Get a Quote, and the page says products are priced by activity, ingest, workload or entity, with volume discounts. Third-party estimates conflict, from about $150 to $200 per GB per day on legacy ingest to $765 to $2,049 per GB per day per year, and Vendr data cited by one source puts the median spend near $94,200 a year with Enterprise Security adding 1.5 to 2 times base ingest cost. One source says the AI Assistant for SPL is bundled rather than metered, which I could not confirm.
Splunk suits large organisations needing SIEM at scale. Compare Elastic Security, Google Security Operations and Sumo Logic. Browse the Cybersecurity tools directory for more.
