What Is Zep?
Zep is a memory and context engineering platform for AI agents, built on a temporal knowledge graph. The most recent sources, as of late September and October 2026, describe four Zep Cloud tiers. Free is $0 with 10,000 credits a month, no rollover or automatic top-up, lower-priority processing, 2 projects, 1 Memory MCP Server seat and 5 custom entity and edge types. Flex is $125 a month for 50,000 credits with overage at $25 per additional 10,000, 600 requests per minute, 5 projects, 5 MCP seats and 30-day credit rollover. Flex Plus is $375 a month for 200,000 credits with $75 per additional 40,000, and annual billing advertises a 17% saving (about $104 and $312 a month). Enterprise is custom, with SOC 2 Type II and HIPAA BAA support.
Credits depend on payload size. An episode up to 350 bytes costs one credit, plus one for each additional 350 bytes or part, while retrieval, storage, graph storage, memories and users are unmetered, which makes forecasting hard. Graphiti, the open-source engine, is Apache 2.0, with infrastructure and model costs separate and a graph database such as Neo4j, FalkorDB or Kuzu required. Some 2026 comparison pages show an older structure of Free at 1,000 credits and Flex at $25 for 20,000 credits, which appear stale. Zep's own page was not checked directly.
