What Is Checkmarx?
Checkmarx is an application security testing platform whose unified product, Checkmarx One, covers SAST, SCA, DAST, IaC, API security and container scanning, with an agentic AI layer called Checkmarx One Assist. Checkmarx's own pricing page, read directly, shows no public prices. Packages are Essentials, Professional and Enterprise, plus Start with SAST and Start with Supply Chain, each with a Get a Custom Quote button, and the FAQ says it is priced per package and tailored to your environment, based on the number of developers in scope. A separate prepaid Checkmarx Credits model is mentioned, and the FAQ says there is no self-serve free trial, only a personalised demo.
Third-party estimates vary: one comparison cites a minimum contract near $59,000 a year per Vendr in 2026 and $59,000 to $150,000 or more for a 200-developer organisation, while another guide gives $8,000 to $50,000 or more. Reviewers cite renewal increases. On AI, Developer Assist, the IDE agent, reached general availability in August 2025, and Wikipedia notes Tromzo's reasoning engine would drive new Assist agents beginning in early 2026. AI-suggested fixes have not been independently benchmarked. Hellman and Friedman bought a majority in April 2020 at a $1.15 billion valuation with TPG and Insight Partners, and I found no change in ownership. One source reports two Checkmarx-maintained GitHub Actions were compromised in March 2026 with credential-stealing malware, which is worth asking about.
Checkmarx suits enterprises with large codebases that need broad application security coverage. Compare Veracode, Aikido Security and GitGuardian. Browse the Cybersecurity tools directory for more.
