What Is Kubeflow?
Kubeflow is an open-source machine learning toolkit for Kubernetes, free to use under the Apache 2.0 licence. Its latest release line is calendar-versioned: the Kubeflow Community Distribution 26.03.1 announcement, dated April 11, 2026, says release versioning is now Year.Month.Patch, the GitHub release page marks 26.03.1 as the latest, and Wikipedia gives a stable release of 26.03 dated March 22, 2026. One docs page's June 15, 2026 date and 116-days-ago age stamp do not line up with each other. A CNCF post from July 28, 2026 describes the project as advancing toward CNCF graduation, a later third-party analysis says the CNCF graduated Kubeflow on August 17, 2026 with effect from July 24, and Wikipedia still describes it as incubating from 2023, so confirm graduation against CNCF's own records. Kubeflow Notebooks v2 is in alpha. A Tech Daily Shot article on Kubeflow v3.0 dates that release to June 2024, which I could not verify, so I left it out.
The results did not address managed-distribution pricing. Only one mentions commercial support from multiple vendors, with no prices, so any cost comes from running Kubernetes yourself or buying a vendor distribution or cloud managed offering, which needs a separate check of vendor pages. Self-hosting trades licence fees for platform engineering effort, so factor in cluster, storage and staff time.
Kubeflow suits platform and ML engineering teams already on Kubernetes that want pipelines, notebooks, training operators and serving in one open stack. Smaller teams may prefer a simpler tool. Compare ZenML, Metaflow and KServe. Browse the MLOps & Infrastructure tools directory for more.
