What Is LakeFS?
lakeFS is Git-like version control for data lakes. Third-party reviews describe a free, self-hosted open-source edition with core version control features and community support, while one claim that it is free forever and includes almost all features is less reliable. The vendor's own page gives the only figure found: a Team tier that is free for 30 days and then $499 a month, cancel anytime, available for up to 5 users and 500 GB of data, which is a Team tier and not a full Enterprise contract. The Enterprise edition has no public price, and the company does not publish per-user costs, volume tiers or minimum commitments, with Enterprise said to add RBAC, SSO, SCIM provisioning and audit logging.
The feature split is unsettled: one toolradar listing puts RBAC, SSO and audit logs under its open-source tier, which contradicts the others. lakeFS Cloud supports AWS, Azure and GCP, but no managed-service price was found. Apache 2.0 is claimed in one roundup but I could not confirm it from primary sources in these results, so check the repository licence. A tool.news page shows a $25 a month estimate that is explicitly a beta guess, so I would not rely on it. lakeFS also reportedly stewards DVC after a November 2025 acquisition per one source, which is outside these results. lakeFS suits data engineering teams that want branching, atomic commits and rollbacks over object storage. Compare DVC, Databricks and Feast. Browse the MLOps & Infrastructure tools directory for more.
