What Is Papago API?
Papago API is the developer side of Papago Translation, a Naver Cloud Platform service for translating text, documents and websites, with language detection and glossary support. Naver's documentation overview, updated September 17, 2026, lists no prices, plan names or trial terms. A linked specification page, marked stale, says Papago Translation is a paid service with fees based on characters requested in units of 1,000,000 characters, and points to the portal's AI services menu for rates, but the portal pricing page timed out twice, so I could not read any rate and I list pricing as contact sales. The spec lists the Korean region, VPC and Classic platforms, Korean, English and Japanese in its table, and per-application usage caps of up to a billion characters a month and 300 million a day that you set yourself.
The docs say the Papago Translation API does not store users' source data or use it as training data, and that the Text Translation API requires showing the Papago brand notice and link. Papago is especially strong for Korean, Japanese and Chinese pairs. The service is part of Naver Cloud, whose account setup and billing run through its own console, and I found no sign the API is being retired. Developers should confirm the current per-million-character rate, free quota and supported language list on the portal, and check whether the Korean region restriction fits their deployment.
