What Is Pipecat?
Pipecat is an open-source framework for building real-time voice and multimodal AI agents, maintained by Daily with its community. Pipecat's GitHub page, read directly, shows a BSD-2-Clause licence, about 16,800 stars, 3,000 forks, 119 open issues, 325 open pull requests and over 14,400 commits on main, and the site calls it the most widely used open-source ecosystem for voice agents. The latest release tag and last commit date were not captured in the fetch. The website lists more than 200 integrated providers, interruption handling and turn detection, multi-agent workflows with Pipecat Flows, WebRTC, SIP and PSTN transports, client SDKs and OpenTelemetry metrics, and the framework installs from PyPI. It has no price of its own.
Pipecat Cloud, Daily's hosting, is priced per minute on Daily's pricing page. An agent-1x with half a vCPU costs $0.01 per active minute and $0.0005 reserved, agent-2x $0.02 and $0.001, and agent-3x $0.03 and $0.0015, with unlimited concurrency. Daily WebRTC voice is $0.001 per minute for 1:1 sessions, voice and video $0.004 per participant minute, telephony runs $0.003 to $0.02 for SIP and $0.018 for PSTN, recording from $0.005 a minute, and Krisp noise cancellation is free to 10,000 minutes. Third-party providers are billed to you directly. There is a start-for-free link with no amounts and a volume-priced enterprise tier. The footer reads Daily, Inc. 2026 and the site promotes current launches.
Pipecat suits engineers building custom voice agents who want control over every component. Compare LiveKit, Vapi and Ultravox. Browse the Speech & Transcription tools directory for more.
